August 2012
Martin was first diagnosed with a rare type of pancreatic cancer (Acinar Cell Carcinoma) at 32 years old. He quickly realized that hearing stories from other patients helped him through his journey.
“My oncologist told me about a young skier who has survived my disease. That story became my mantra. I thought if he’s out there maybe I can be out there as a survivor too. ”
He even signed up for a triathlon while in chemotherapy, despite the fact that he had never practiced endurance sport before.
His story inspired a lot of other patients to keep going and this gave him the idea to document more survivors from all around the world.
July 2013
Katarina meets Martin and fall in love. A year later she starts using stories to cheer herself up, and Martin too.
While on Chemo Martin submitted his idea of documenting survival stories to a swiss media grant…
And won the first prize!
April 2016
After multiple recurrences of his cancer, Martin and his wife Katarina resigned their jobs and embarked on a journey across 11 countries in search of more survival stories.
Having little experience in media production did not hold them back
